About Us
Wolverine Baptist Church has been, and continues to be Independent, Fundamental, Missionary, Pre-Tribulational, Pre-Millennial and Bible Believing (KJV)
Doctrinal Statement

1. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit

2. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His vicarious and atoning death, in His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection and His ascension to the Father’s right hand.

3. We believe that man is totally depraved, a sinner both nature and practice, therefore totally separated from God, totally lost and in need of the convicting and regenerating ministry of the Holy Ghost.

4. We believe that salvation is a free gift from God offered to any man totally “by grace” and must be received “through faith” apart from any works, plus nothing and minus nothing.

5. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved unto “LIFE” and the unsaved unto “JUDGMENT” and everlasting damnation. We believe in a literal heaven with golden streets and a literal burning hell with fire and brimstone.

6. We believe in the visible, personal, and pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ.

7. We believe in the local New Testament church which is a body of baptized believers who come together in obedience to Christ to carry out the message of the Word of God.

8. We believe that there are two ordinances of the local church--Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe baptism to be the symbolic act of a saved believer being immersed in water, the Lord’s Supper being observed by the church by taking of bread and grape juice as a memorial of the Lord’s death and in expectation of His return.

9. We believe that the Bible ( King James 1611) is the Word of God and is the absolute authority in determining the faith and practice of God’s people. We affirm that the sixty-six books of the Bible are inerrant divinely and uniquely inspired, and are given to mankind written as they were inspired by the Spirit of God. These Scriptures are divinely intended for personal study and interpretation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

10. We believe that when a person accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour, he can never be lost as he is kept by the power of God.

11. We believe in the personality of Satan; in his power and kingdom, in his wiles and in his judgment at the cross and in his eternal destruction in hell.

When Wolverine Baptist Church was born.

A question arose, should an infant be baptized? A young couple traveled from Wolverine to a Bible Conference being held in Harbor Springs in search of the answer. Pastor Richard Halter wisely advised the couple listen to the evening message and afterwards he’d answer their questions. They found their needs met in salvation and knew that the answer to their question about baptism was that it is for believers only. For less than 10 months a weekly Bible study was held in the home of William Theaker. On Father’s Day of 1960, a group of 20 -25 new believers met for the first Sunday service in the old grange hall north of Wolverine. November 1962 Kenneth Truman became the first pastor and was with the church until August of 1981 when he retired due to health issues. September 13,1981 Orville Theaker accepted the call of the church body to become their
new Pastor.

On May 1986 ground breaking took place. Pastor Theaker led the church in a needed
building program. It provided Sunday school rooms, office space, a full fellowship hall and kitchen facilities. The construction was done by him and the men of the church as well as missionaries during times they were here for missions’ conferences. June 2000 was the dedication of the new debt-free facilities.

Through the years there have been many people who’ve attended the scheduled services of the church. Many have received Christ as personal Savior. Different folks have gone from here to various fields of ministry such as youth pastors, missionaries, pastors’ wives, as well as faithful workers in local churches. Praise the Lord for His hand of blessing here
in this Northern Michigan community.

The church is very involved in helping support foreign missionaries. We have in-church ministry for teens; Discovery Club for youth; as well as a junior church program. We also have a rest home ministry that involves volunteers from our congregation to minister in a couple rest home facilities in Cheboygan.

We want to continue to carry out the church motto “A Church That Cares For You”.

 Wolverine Baptist Church Covenant:
Having been lead by the Holy Spirit to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and on profession of our faith in Him, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We promise that we will watch over and counsel one another in the spirit of brotherly love, that we will remember one another in our prayers, and that we will aid each other in sickness and distress.

We further agree, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to give it a sacred pre-eminence over all institutions of human origin; and to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, and relief of the poor, and the spreadof the Gospel through all nations.

We further covenant to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to live carefully in this present world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from everything that will cause our brother to stumble or that will bring reproach upon the cause of Christ; and to strive to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, that amidst evil and good report we will humbly and earnestly seek to live to the honor and glory of Him who loved us and gave Himself for us.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
